I had never heard of blogging until the IT person at a local school invited staff to learn the basics of blogging for the classroom.. I was the only one to show up! Their loss because it is a great tool in the classroom. I like to blog because I like to learn and share what I find. It gives me an outlet to post interesting items and food for thought. Didn't you ever come across something that you knew your students would be interested in but simply didn't have time in the classroom to share it? This is where it can be done. Or if you find that something in class has the WOW factor for students, posting it lets them access it again and again.
This is what happened with the Bacteria Song. I found this online and kids at school
were singing along by the end of the week because I posted it to the class blog page.
Kids were downloading it to their ipods.
So why do you blog?

I use blogs because it is a way to get reluctant writers to write. The students I work with are generally not motivated to do assignments, so blogs are a nice way to get them to write and, if the prompt is well done, to get them to think creatively. I have found it to be a very valuable tool.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the problems I have-good prompts. My students were 7th graders and they would tell me instead of writing or write but not answer the question I posed. When I get to HS I am looking forward to more written participation (I hope).
ReplyDeleteTHe ideas are flowing, overflowing... How can the solution to information overload to blast exponentially more information?
ReplyDeleteI look at blogging as a way to publicly journal my thinking. Of course, I also like to use it to post resources for my students!
ReplyDeleteUp until now, I didn't blog. I can honestly say that if I were not enrolled in the course, I would never have blogged. I can now see it will be a valuable tool in my teaching, and will blog because it will help me to help my students learn.
