This is my original photo so
you can see the difference
This site is a blast! It is easy to use, so many options and turns average photos into something of a wow. I used one of my butterfly pictures from my yard. I cropped, saturated, used B/W focal and then added a matte halo. I can't imagine myself using this in class but to add photos for my blog page it would be great. Haven't played with the collage feature yet. I really see my students using this. They must do a full science project this year in HS and this tool will add uniqueness to their presentation.
Interesting. I was not sure about my practical uses of Picnik in the classroom but your photo clears up a lot for me. I think I was thinking too complex. While the collage features, advanced editing tools, etc. are nice, using it to simply make a nice photo into an extraordinary photo has a lot of power. Using it to create photos that catch the students attention could be a quick, easy application of this tool.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pic! Thanks for sharing!
I agree, not sure I want to spend the time to create beautiful photos for lessons but I did come across a blog that said having these tools available for students gives them ownership of their work.I found picnik was the easiest site to use so we will spend time in class learning how to use the tool for presentations. I can't wait to use the collage for lab photos. It will make pictures on the blog interesting. Plus I noticed that you really can only upload a few photos and then you have no control over them in the posting. a collage is one way to get them all in without using space. I also liked the poster site but see this as excellent tool for English class more than science.
ReplyDeleteYeah, one of our teachers introduced the poster site at our "technology day" during our end of the year meetings. She is an English teacher and is doing or will do some cool things with it but I'm not sure about incorporating it into my lessons. The way she's using it is to introduce a unit and have the students do essentially a Webquest using it to guide them. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten on the site yet to see it's ease of use but I'm sure I will at some point.
